Habitat

Apple snails live in freshwater marshes, lakes, and rivers and springs.

These habitats include emergent vegetation (plants that extend out of the water), which allows apple snails to climb near the water surface to feed, breathe, and lay eggs. Snails also eat bladderworts and other types of submerged aquatic plants.

The apple snail's diet includes periphyton. Periphyton consists of a mat of algae (simple plants without roots, stems, and leaves) that becomes attached to submerged surfaces, such as plant stems and leaves.
