Pseudobranchus striatus - Broad-striped Dwarf Siren - adult
Appearance: Elongate, slender eel-like body. 10-20.3cm (4-10in) total length.  Has bushy external gills and no hind limbs.  Forelimbs have 3 toes each. Dark stripe down back with a narrow yellow line down the middle. Broader yellow stripe down side of body. Belly is lighter marked with yellow flecking.

Habits and Habitat:  Ditches, swamps, ponds, and semi-permanent wetlands.  Eats primarily aquatic invertebrates.

Distribution and Abundance:  Eastern coastal plain, from North central Florida to South Carolina. Locally abundant in some areas, but difficult to sample.
